Horse Feathers
Veterans Program

Horse Feathers is our largest active volunteer and participant group at the farm. Begun in 2015, Horse Feathers is an animal assisted wellness program that meets once a week to teach driving and horsemanship skills. The program also includes small animal assisted learning and has an active gardening group as well.

Our veteran volunteers have become active in many areas of the farm, especially bonding and working with our older sanctuary animals. They also help out with other areas of therapeutic horsemanship, not to mention the wonderful help our Veterans give us during our annual fundraisers.

The Horse Feathers group is entirely funded out of contributions. No charge is assessed to any member.

Horse Feathers Veterans Program at Ray of Light Farm in East Haddam, CT is an equine learning and wellness program helping veterans or first responders with post traumatic stress.

Horse Feathers pledges to:

promote emotional well-being for veterans and first responders through a connection with rescue horses
inspire self-confidence through learning about horse related care and activities
emphasize individual goals such as harnessing expertise, cart or wagon driving, barn management, grooming
provide the opportunity to continue in the program as a volunteer for future clients
